The controlled release of caffeine from the casein gel tablets has been achieved over release periods lasting from a few minutes to over a few days. A novel casein gel has been acidified at pH of 1.0 as the insoluble controlled-release matrix and spray-dried with coffee for microencapsulation. The optimal inlet temperature of spray drying for the casein-coffee mixtures has been found to be 150 °C. The elastic casein-coffee tablets have been engineered without denaturing the components (as...

Over the past few years, there has been increasing attention to the design of new drug delivery systems based on milk proteins due to their excellent functional properties. In this study, we report a new approach for preparing protein-based coating films using highly methacrylated casein as a macro-crosslinker. The films exhibited a smooth surface and an even casein distribution as evidenced by both scanning electron and atomic force microscopy, respectively.

Objective: The main objective of this review is to investigate the potential role of milk in improvement of bioavailability and patient compliance. Method: The study reviews the types of milk based on its composition, mechanism of how milk improves the solubility of poorly soluble drugs, masks the taste of bitter drugs and improves the patient compliance to dosage regimen. It also reviews various research studies done so far that recommend the use of milk in formulations. Along with this, the...
