In July 2016, the EDQM released the 9th Edition of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.). Compared to the 8th Edition, more than half of the 9th Edition is new or revised, reflecting the latest developments in a truly globalised, dynamic and ever-changing pharmaceutical world.In this video clip, Dr Susanne Keitel, Director of the EDQM, explains how the Ph. During its 155th Session, held in Strasbourg on 21-22 June 2016, the European Pharmacopoeia Commission adopted a revision of the general chapter Monocyte-activation test (2.6.30) in order to make it more widely useable by stakeholders and thus facilitate a reduction in testing on live animals.

The meeting of the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group (PDG) [European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur.), Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP), and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP)] was hosted by EDQM in Strasbourg, France, 25-26 May 2016. To date, 29 of the 36 General Chapters and 49 of the 67 excipient monographs on the current work programme have been harmonised.
