Complex hydrogels formed with chitosan (CS) and ring-opened polyvinyl pyrrolidone (roPVP) as a swellable mucoadhesive gastroretentive drug dosage form (smGRDDF) were prepared and characterized. CS/roPVP hydrogels were produced by blending CS with roPVP obtained by basic treatment of PVP.
