Abstract Composite films were sprayed from mixtures of water soluble hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and either nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) or cellulose nanocrystals (CNC). Fiber diameter was similar for both nanocelluloses but fiber length was several μm for NFC and about 200 nm for CNC. Films were characterized for morphology, swelling, mass loss and transport properties. NFC-HPMC films swelled less than CNC-HPMC films; with a HPMC content of 20 wt% NFC-HPMC and CNC-HPMC films...

Abstract Surfactants are widely used as stabilizers in the biopharmaceutical formulations to minimize protein aggregation. Under a fixed stress condition, the protecting and destabilizing effects of surfactants are hypothesized to be highly dependent on the species and concentrations of surfactants and mAb. Therefore, we here studied the aggregation-prevention and structure-perturbation effects of eight commonly used surfactants (Tw20, Tw80, Brij35, Chaps, TrX-100, SDS, Pluronic F68 and F127)...

Orally disintegrating films (ODFs) can transport natural active compounds such as hydrolyzed collagen (HC) and ethanol extract of propolis (EEP). This paper aimed to investigate the effect of lecithin on different gelatin and HC polymeric matrices with addition of EEP. ODFs were prepared by casting and were characterized (color parameters, water content, mechanical properties, microstructure, disintegration time (DT), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), contact angle (CA), swelling degree and total...

Disintegration performance was measured by analysing both water ingress and tablet swelling of pure microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and in mixture with croscarmellose sodium using terahertz pulsed imaging (TPI). Tablets made from pure MCC with porosities of 10% and 15% showed similar swelling and transport kinetics... More

Latanoprost is a practically insoluble prostaglandin F2α analog considered a first-line agent for glaucoma treatment. From a pharmaceutical point of view, latanoprost is challenging to be formulated as an eye drop due to its poor water solubility and the presence of an ester bond which needs to be cleaved in vivo but maintained unchanged during storage. Cyclodextrins (CDs) are known to form complexes with hydrophobic drugs... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25960331
