Mesalazine also known as mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid) is the amino deriva- tive of salicylic acid, this molecule possesses an amphoteric character due to the pres- ence of the carboxyl and amino groups. So; the value of the pH medium has a strong effect on its solubility and protonation.

Abstract The synthesis of pectin-silica gels for controlled drug release in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) using low methoxyl (LM) and high methoxy (HM) pectins and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as precursor is described. The FTIR spectra of the pectin-silica gels show intense absorption bands at 1246 cm−1 and 802 cm−1 corresponding to the vibrations single bondCsingle bondOsingle bondSisingle bond bonds, which absent in the FTIR spectra of the native pectins that indicate the formation covalent...

Purpose: To develop gastro-resistant multiparticles systems for mesalazine colon delivery capable to facilitate the dispersion in water and the intake by children. Method: Mesalazine microparticles, containing stearic acid, carnauba wax and Eudragit L®, were obtained by spray-congealing. “Excipient microparticles” of mannitol/lecithin were prepared by spray-drying. Mesalazine lipid microparticles, non-agglomerating per se, were agglomerated by blending in turbula with mannitol/lecithin...
