Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant and moodstabilizing drug used in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Certain limitations associated with the oral administration of the drug are poor water solubility, complexity in polymorphism, autoinduction to metabolism, narrow therapeutic window and high therapeutic dosage requirements.

The microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was extracted by microwave assisted from cotton wool. The effects of sulfuric acid concentration, time and temperature on the yield were investigated by a single factor experiments and the preparation condition were optimized using 23 factorial design and analyzed by statistical test.
