Analysis results concerning nanocrystals for improved dermal drug delivery
25. April 2018
Nanocrystals are composed of 100% active and possess an increased aqueous solubility and dissolution velocity when compared to larger sized materials. Nanocrystals can be used to improve the bioavailability of poorly soluble actives not only for oral, but also for topical application. In this study nanocrystals of different sizes were produced and the influence of size on dermal penetration was investigated. The influence of different excipients and vehicles on the penetration efficacy upon...

During the development of a dermal drug, much efforts tend to be placed on improving its delivery through skin. These efforts are driven by the known risk of not engaging the target. Indeed to increase comfort that the target will be engaged one need to try fullfill as best as it can evidence of (1) sufficient compound on board for a desired time (i.e., PK within skin) and (2) demonstration of pharmacological activity [1].

Abstract Objectives: The work objective was to study the possible effects of different pharmaceutical excipients on the release of sodium salicylate from oily vehicles. Methods: Several formulations of Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) containing different pharmaceutical additives were prepared. The release rate behaviour of sodium salicylate from these oily formulations was investigated using a dialysis method. The time required for 30% and 50% of the salicylate to appear in solution outside the...

Many pediatric patients require medications that are not available in age appropriate formulations, especially those with cardiovascular diseases. The use of a suitable vehicle is critical for the preparation of extemporaneous formulations with the expected effect. Considering that palatability is essential to treatment adherence in children, we analyzed the acceptance of extemporaneous formulations of Captopril and Furosemide prepared using a developed vehicle in three flavors: neutral,...
